The 30-hour course will culminate in students performing a choreographed fight as part of a scene to be adjudicated by an SAFD Fight Master. No prior stage combat experience is necessary. About the Style
Sword and Shield
Sword and Shield is one of the oldest forms of combat humanity devised, and is one of the most dynamic to be performed. Classic images of warriors like the Spartans, Vikings, and chivalric knights all used the sword and shield. Though an archaic combination, modern media is still rife with this image, from hit series like Game of Thrones and Vikings to films like Kingdom of Heaven, Gladiator, and Wonder Woman. This is a fighting style that utilizes the whole body at once, and showcases an impressive display of martial prowess. While the division of defense and offense between the two tools seems obvious, it is the blending of them that truly makes a scene shine.
